Collage is the process of finding something and gluing onto something else. Pretty simple, right?

But collage can actually be quite complex.

​

To get ready for your collage, there are a few basic things you will need:

​

• Scissors

• An xacto-knife and a rubber mat (don't cut the table! AAAAH)

• Magazines and smaller pieces of construction paper

• A base for you to glue things on (look on the tower under "collage centre" for smaller construction paper)

• Glue or glue stick

And some rules to think about in order to not be sad and disappointed:

Always check behind the image you are cutting or ripping, so that you don't cut something even better that is behind.

ALWAYS cut only one sheet at a time. The sheet you are cutting must be on top of the cutting mat, with no sheets in between. Lots of nice images were wrecked due to not following this simple rule.

 

There are not enough mats for the whole class. You can either share mats, or wait your turn. DO NOT use a magazine as a mat! That ruins the magazine, and can still seep through to the table.
